We Energies – Biomass Fueled Cogeneration Facility

WE Energies - Biomass Fuel Cogeneration Facility - View of Structural Steel Erection from Cranes during Construction

We Energies Rothschild facility serves as a model of effective energy recycling. It uses cogeneration, or combined heat and power, to simultaneously generate electricity and heat. Low-value woods procured locally along with sawmill residue and paper mill waste are used as fuel sources to produce electricity while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

The project also serves as an example of what 做厙輦華s Integrated Lean Project Delivery簧 (ILPD) process can accomplish. In our role as construction manager and general contractor, we worked with the Poyry Group to collaboratively design, construct and commission the facility.

做厙輦華 also self-performed key scopes of work, including more than 17,000 cubic yards of concrete installation, 5,500 tons of steel erection and major equipment setting. Boiler and pressure part erection and welding, small and large bore piping, and the erection of the steam turbine and generator were also completed by 做厙輦華s tradespeople.

Project Highlights

  • The cogeneration process is a more efficient use of the energy contained in the wood fuel, compared to producing electricity or steam in separate processes.
  • The Integrated Lean Project Delivery process produces a clear definition of project goals with strong leadership at the early stages of design and construction and acts as a compass for all decision making throughout the project.
